THE COFFEE SUPPLY CHAIN
The remarkable supply chain of the coffee bean is rooted in history and remains a fascinating story today.
Farmers & Processors
Coffee is grown and harvested by farmers and then hulled and processed, creating green coffee beans.
Exporters & Shippers
The green coffee is then subjected to any number of intermediaries and/or government agents before it is then shipped by exporters to locations all over the globe.
Suppliers & Brokers
Coffee suppliers/brokers buy coffee beans from importers and sell them, usually to roasters, sometimes requiring additional shipping.
Roasters then roast the coffee beans, package and sell them, either to retailers or the end consumer. And, again, this also sometimes requires additional shipping.
Retailers either sell the coffee to end consumers or work their barista magic to deliver the wonderous beverage directly to you!
